Ecocoast Becomes a Signatory of the United Nations Global Compact

Ecocoast has recently been accepted as a Signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), joining a global network of over 9,500 companies and 3,000 non-business participants that are committed to building a sustainable future.

Signatory of the United Nations Global Compact

The Global Compact asks participating companies to pursue two complementary goals: (1) Internalize the Ten Principles within the company’s strategies, policies and operations, and (2) Undertake projects to advance the broader development goals of the United Nations, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals.

Our story started in 2007, when our founders, Lachlan Jackson and Dana Liparts, decided to move to the UAE. There was a huge amount of marine & coastal development taking place across the region. Low impact, sustainable marine and coastal protection structures were unknown. Contractors were also not using anything to protect the marine environment during construction, reclamation or dredging activities.

In addition, there was a lack of technical know-how and skills locally in this area. The international marine manufacturers could not offer the quality, customizations or designs that are effective in the Gulf environment. So, there was clearly a need in the market for solutions to support and protect the marine environment. As a result, Ecocoast was founded in 2009 to offer alternative, sustainable solutions for marine and coastal development. Long before sustainability became the buzzword it is today.

“Ecocoast has supported the UNGC mission since it was founded in 2009. We are thrilled to be an official Signatory and look forward to supporting and participating in UNGC engagements,” said Lachlan Jackson, Managing Director, Ecocoast. “This is another step forward in our journey to build a more sustainable future.”
