Marine INFRASTRUCTURE

Ecocoast covers the full spectrum of design and construction of marine facilities from marinas and jetties, quay walls, to piling for overwater restaurants and villas, to creation of artificial reefs or dive paths.

  • Marinas, pontoons & jetties
  • Boardwalks & over-water facilities
  • Quay walls & barge ramps
  • Slipways & berthing facilities
  • Cofferdams
  • Marine piling and piling protection
  • Beach construction & improvement
  • Artificial reefs and dive paths
  • Dredging and reclamation works
  • Marine protection barriers

Ecocoast now also offers sleeving options, such as UHMW-PE and HDPE Piling Sleeves, to increase the lifespan of marine piles and provide protection. The sleeves are a cost-effective alternative to pile replacement. Effectiveness is especially ensured when installing immediately after piling works, as maintenance hours will be reduced significantly.

  • Over water decking, villas and platforms
  • Boardwalks
  • Quay Walls

We have experience and equipment capable of driving all sizes and lengths of tubular, H-Beam and sheet piles for a range of projects. We have our own plant and equipment ranging from excavators and crawler cranes, vibro hammers, pontoons and spud barges.  This allows us to keep costs down, and ensures we can support our clients on all of their marine projects as their preferred piling subcontractor.

We can offer:

  • Specialist marine piling team
  • Experience across full scope of marine piling
  • Piling protection by installing UHMW-PE Sleeves   More here
  • Ecocoast-owned plant and equipment
  • Competitive rates
  • Reliable and professional service

Marinas, Berthing & Overwater Facilities

We provide design and construction services across the marina and boating facilities sector.  We specialise in designing and installing facilities for all marine craft from Megayachts and Superyachts to Fishing Boats, Recreational Boats, Jet Skis and Commercial Vessels:

  • Marinas
  • Berths
  • Jetties
  • Pontoons
  • Mooring
  • Overwater Facilities
  • Boardwalks
  • Barge Ramps
  • Piling works
  • Piling works and piling protection

The service we offer to our clients in this area covers the whole package, beyond just marina design and construction. We also carry out repair, maintenance of marinas and marine piles.

In addition, we conduct hydrographic surveys to accurately plot navigation channels for safe passage of vessels into marinas and shallow areas, and conduct dredging works to deepen berths or widen waterways.  We also conduct feasibility studies and integrated coastal management studies, incorporating all coastal elements from marinas to beaches.

Special Events

We regularly design and construct temporary pontoons, berths and facilities for boat shows and special events.  Our work in the Special Events area also includes installation of fireworks barges and pontoons and mooring of Mega Yachts and other large vessels.

Dredging & Reclamation

We focus on small-medium sized dredging and reclamation works relating to beach protection, channel widening, marina and pontoon installation and beach nourishment and construction.

Beach Construction & Improvement

Every beach is unique. Every client is unique. Every solution is unique.

There is no "One Size Fits All" when it comes to beaches.

What does the beach need?
Protection? Stabilisation? Improvement? Extension? Creation?

Does it need to incorporate Leisure Facilities?
Marinas? Berthing? Boardwalks? Protected Swimming Areas? Artificial reefs or snorkel paths?

How is the Sand Quality?
Does it need cleaning, profiling, new higher quality sand?

How important is Aesthetics?
Low profile structures using sand coloured geotubes? Submerged structure? Rock?

How valuable is your beach?  How valuable do you want it to be?

Common solutions involve

  • Beach Nourishment
  • Sea Defences: breakwaters, groynes, submerged toes, perched beaches
  • Emergency Protection Works: Trapbags, Geobags & Geotubes
  • Beach Profiling
  • Beach Cleaning
  • Leisure Facilities: artificial reefs and snorkel paths, marinas, boardwalks, jetties, protected swimming areas

Artificial Reefs & Dive Paths

Artificial reefs and dive paths can add significant value by creating recreational and environmental benefit.

In semi-submerged and submerged structures, habitats for local marine life can be eco-engineered to replicate natural environments using sand-filled geosynthetic containers and other reef structures. These habitats draw an abundance of local marine life from the surrounding area. The increased quantity of marine life aids in conservation while also creating dive and snorkel opportunities.

Multi-function reefs

In sites that fulfil the necessary swell criteria, artificial reefs can provide beach protection and focus swell into desirable breaking waves for surfing. Depending on the predominant swell size (small or large) a reef can be designed to be suitable for mals (longboards), bodyboards, surf skis, windsurfers and kiteboarders.  These structures also form a habitat for marine life, thereby creating dive and snorkel opportunities.

CASE STUDY SNAPSHOT

Narrowneck Artificial Reef on the Gold Coast, Australia, with waves up to 12m is an example of successful implementation of custom geotextiles for coastal engineering.

Designed and constructed in 2000, the primary objective of Narrowneck Reef was to widen the beach and mitigate storm erosion. The secondary function of this submerged structure was to improve surfing. Since its construction, it has become evident that
the diverse marine environment created by the reef is also of significant value, both environmentally and for recreation in the forms of diving, snorkelling and fishing.

Ongoing monitoring has proven the success of the design with primary and secondary objectives being fulfilled. Modelling and research undertaken on the Narrowneck project has provided ICM / Ecocoast with a proven model for engineering habitats and efficient design and construction methods for multi-functional eco-friendly geotextile reefs.

Quay Walls

We have experience with the design and construction of quay walls used to moor and berth floating vessels such are barges, ships, boats etc.

We primarily design and construct:

  • Sheet piled quay walls
  • Combi walls
  • Gravity block quay walls

Our experience covers all works involved in the design, construction, maintenance and repair of quay walls, having experience working with port authorities, defence and municipal authorities and private developers.

We also deal with the installation of marine fenders for quay walls including Arch, Cone and Pneumatic fenders.

Dredging & Reclamation

We focus on small-medium sized dredging and reclamation works relating to beach protection, channel widening, marina and pontoon installation and beach nourishment and construction.

We also have a range of dredging equipment available for hire from dredge pipes, hoppers, barges and venturi pumps.

For Marine Protection during dredging and reclamation works, we manufacture and install a range of silt curtains and turbidity barriers through our Ecobarrier brand.
